With
April here, Site for SoreEyes Berkeley can now officially wish
everyone a happy spring season. There is much to do in and around town, so keep
your fingers crossed that there will not be too many April Showers to put a
damper on your plans.
Here’s
hoping you are reading this blog today, so that you can check out the Berkeley Bay Festival,
going on tomorrow from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The City of Berkeley will host the
Marina Experience Program. Tomorrow marks
the 75th anniversary of this event, which offers something for
everyone of every age. Food, entertainment, arts and crafts and more are in
store – and what’s more, it’s free. With a deal like this, we don’t know what
questions anyone would have – but in case you do – call (510) 981-6700.
When
you are through at the Marina, and are in an inventive frame of mind, consider
checking out a lecture to be held tomorrow night in the Wheeler Auditorium at
the University of California atBerkeley. Guest speaker Ray Kurzell has been labeled by Forbes
Magazine as ‘the ultimate thinking machine.’ Some of Dr. Kurzell’s achievements
include the first print-to-speech reading machine for the blind, and the first
text-to-speech synthesizer. Call 510.642.9988 for tickets.
While
enjoying both of these events, indulge our reminder to wear your eyeglasses or contacts –
especially if you get a seat way in the back!
Pardon
an association of ideas, but with the mention of Green Day, one may think of
‘living green,’ which means being environmentally-conscious, bringing us to the
reminder that April is the month of Earth Day. If you are a Berkeley resident
and are environmentally conscious – wow, is there a lineup of activities to get
involved with! Berkeley has taken Earth Day, and pluralized it to Earth Days,
and from tomorrow until next Monday, events such as a movie about climate
change, field trips, an art show and even a scavenger hunt are yours for the
visiting. For a full schedule, call the Ecology Center at
510.548.2220, or stop by at 2530 San Pablo Avenue. (We should note that there
will be a number of presentations concerning the environment at tomorrow’s
Berkeley Bay Festival.)
Well
ladies and gentlemen – there you have but a few things to do for April. Even if
you don’t have a set plan to go somewhere or do something, this is a near
perfect time of year to go for an invigorating, refreshing walk. If you’ve a
mind to, and you haven’t already, pay us a visit for your annual eye exam. So, you can mix business (of taking
care of your eyes) with pleasure (enjoying April weather), after all!
